Everyone enjoyed the sunshine for the weekend!

Great Horned Owl
nest! |
Would you feel safe nesting in this tree?
The small looking dark spot on the horizon is the closest tree and
it is the same size as the one in the foreground!! This tree
stands alongside one of the busiest roads in the Imperial Valley.
|
Aside from providing a perch for hawks and blackbirds, and a few
twigs to heat a farm laborer's lunch, it was chosen as a great nest
site by a pair of Great Horned Owls!!

The farm
laborers are probably trying to figure out why so many bird
watchers are so interested in the noisy Red-winged Blackbirds
perched above them!
|
This GHOW
was so well camouflaged that some still had trouble seeing it in
the spotting scopes!! The nest is in the thick V, just above
the tip of the brim of the gentlemen's hat in the above picture.

The
"Blizzard of 03" had shut down the East Coast forcing
the Sutton's and others to lay over and endure shirt sleeve
weather and spectacular Imperial Valley sunsets for extra days ;-(

Having to
watch so many birds in such great weather with such wonderful
people...... yeah.... I think this was another great Salton Sea
Bird Festival!
