Another fine trip to the
Imperial Valley with
Al & Helga Borgardt. We missed several common species, but
picked up both Rough-legged and Red-shouldered Hawks.
106 species total
We started out today looking for Brewer's Sparrows at the BLM Hot
Springs site east of Holtville. We didn't find any of those,
but right in the area we did find White-crowned, Vesper, Savannah, and
Lark Sparrows.

At Ramer Lake we found the two sleeping Lesser
Nighthawks, some shorebirds, and other waders.
|
Over the wet fields we saw flocks
of waders. East of Calipatria we found a soaring Rough-legged Hawk
and a perched Red-shouldered Hawk.

Dune's Sunset
At the small park next to the Ranger
Station, we again scoped the mouth of the Alamo River and located
a single Surf Scoter. At Obsidian Butte, good birds were a
Western Gull and a small flock of Stilt Sandpipers .

We finished out the day with a trip to the Bubbling Mud Pots and
a look at the resident Merlin across Davis Road. |
