Burrowing Owl |
Meeting in Westmoreland we headed north picking up
all three expected owls in the first 20 minutes!
|
We were able to see that there were at least two young in the Great
Horned Owl's nest.

Great Horned Owl
|
The other Great
Horned Owl |
We also saw, very well hidden in the only green
vegetation in the whole tree, the second adult. A flight of
white geese in the distance with a few Canada Geese in the mix was
a late surprise.

Peregrine Falcon
|
We had this
Peregrine along Garst Road and at the Alamo River we had the first
Gull-billed Terns of the year. All of the Flamingos were seen
along the delta also. We found a first year Yellow-footed Gull at
Red Hill.
|
A short hike
in the Bermuda grass gave us two Sprague's Pipits, one of which
pulled the perfect disappearing act!!

Mount Signal in background |
Huge fields
of flowers called Stock are being harvested right now. Mount
Signal, 3/4 of which is in Mexico, can be seen about 40 miles away
in the background.
|
We finished
up with lunch at the other Johnny's. This one in Westmoreland, no
relation, which makes one of the best Carne Asada burritos in the
valley.
