The crew

We left out at sunrise and dropped into Gavilan Wash on Indian Pass Road where we took our first stretch and began exploring.

The rock climbing began immediately!

Rock Climbing begins!

We reached the Colorado River at 4-S Ranch in the Picacho Peak State Park where we watched this couple kayak off toward Hoge Rock as we played in the water and watched an American Kestrel chase a Red-tailed Hawk from the cliff top.

Next stop was Bear Canyon Tank which was full of water and even better rock climbing!

On the way out of Bear Canyon we spent some times playing at the caves worn into the face of the cliff by flashfloods.

An Osprey was busy eating a fish on Taylor Lake as we went by.

1,920 ft. Picacho Peak

We got to see Picacho Peak from all sides as we made a complete loop around it on our way to The Slot and Valley of Names before coming out at Ogilby Road on Hyduke Mine Road.

Familiar Bluet Damselfly

The biggest surprise of the day was this lone male Familiar Bluet this late in the season and this far from water.

Last stop of the day was sunset at the windmill in Nine Mile Wash near the foot of 2,475 ft. Mount Barrow.  The kids were just silhouettes on the ridge as they got in the last of their rock climbing for the day.
