Genus & Species : Tyrannus crassirostris
Status: Uncommon breeder along lowland streams and rivers in southeast Arizona. Rare winter visitor in San Diego County, CA and Yuma County, AZ.
Habitat: Thick-billed Kingbirds breed along well-established riparian areas in southeast Arizona, such as Sonoita Creek.
Seen recently at: Betty's Kitchen (north of Yuma, AZ) and Chula Vista, CA
Best Chances: During the winter, find out if there are any "staked out" visitors. During the breeding season, the Patagonia Roadside Rest Stop and the Patagonia-Sonoita Nature Conservancy Preserve are both reliable places where the birds have frequently bred in the past.
