Harris's Hawk

Family: Accipitridae
Genus & Species : Parabuteo unicinctus
Status: Common resident in Arizona; uncommon to rare visitor to southern California, especially in Jacumba. In the fall they will often form cooperative hunting parties.
Habitat: Urban areas in saguaro-dotted neighborhoods of Phoenix and Tucson, saguaro forests throughout southeast Arizona. Also in mequite woodland and agricultural areas with large trees. Often seen perched on saguaros, telephone poles, or even power lines as they scan their surroundings for rodents.
Best Chances: resident in northern Phoenix and northern Tucson
